expande Signs of ancient flowing water on Mars(Opens New Window)
    2/21/19 11:00 AM

These images from ESA’s Mars Express satellite show a branching, desiccated system of trenches and valleys, signs of ancient water flow that hint at a warmer, wetter past for the Red Planet.

expande Earth’s atmosphere stretches out to the Moon – and beyond(Opens New Window)
    2/20/19 2:00 PM

The outermost part of our planet’s atmosphere extends well beyond the lunar orbit – almost twice the distance to the Moon.

expande Close encounters: planning for extra Hera flyby(Opens New Window)
    2/20/19 10:01 AM

ESA’s proposed Hera mission will already visit two asteroids: the Didymos binary pair. The Hera team hopes to boost that number by performing a flyby of another asteroid during the mission’s three-year flight.

    2/19/19 7:33 AM

Pioneer partner Open Cosmos are taking mission development to a new dimension, using a virtual reality-like simulation that replicates life in orbit for space technologies.

expande Rosetta’s comet sculpted by stress(Opens New Window)
    2/18/19 5:00 PM

Feeling stressed? You’re not alone. ESA’s Rosetta mission has revealed that geological stress arising from the shape of Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko has been a key process in sculpting the comet's surface and interior following its formation.

expande Students wanted for ESA Academy’s standardization training course(Opens New Window)
    2/21/19 4:51 PM

When working on a cutting-edge space mission there is enough to invent and develop without ‘reinventing the wheel’. This is why ESA is part of the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS).

expande Mission on the Moon - Program a classmate to complete a mission on the Moon | Teach with space PR38(Opens New Window)
    2/19/19 6:06 PM

    Subjects: Computing, Mathematics, Arts |

This activity will introduce students to logical thinking by  planning,  testing  and  executing a simple mission on the Moon. Students will work in pairs and take it in turns to play the roles of “mission controller” and “rover”. One student will give commands to enable the other to navigate blindly across the lunar surface. They will have to follow a set route to avoid obstacles, carry out missions and arrive safely at their final destination.

expande Moon Rover - Building a solar-powered rover | Teach with space PR36(Opens New Window)
    2/19/19 5:21 PM

    Subjects: Science, Physics, Arts |

In this activity, students will compare the advantages and disadvantages of renewable energy sources and non-renewable energy sources and study simple electrical circuits. Using the Moon as context students will build a small Moon rover powered by solar energy, using a small motor and a solar cell. They will also identify the main features their rover must have to go to the Moon and improve their initial rover design.
